Who is NASIRC?

NASA has become increasingly dependent on advanced Information Technology (IT) and telecommunications systems to accomplish its missions. IT resources and networks that are connected globally via the Internet are used extensively by NASA and have increasingly become the target of unauthorized penetrations, while evolving software and ever changing hardware configurations continue to introduce new vulnerabilities and additional IT Security challenges. NASA recognizes the need for a proactive and coordinated agency-wide teaming effort that is capable of quickly identifying new vulnerabilities, disseminating consistent information, providing effective solutions, and centrally coordinating all agency-wide vulnerability notification and incident detection, emergency coordination and recovery, and ongoing tracking and analysis activities.

Authority

The NASA Chief Information Officer (CIO) has delegated authority to Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) to oversee the NASA Incident Response Center (NASIRC) contract for IT Security Vulnerability Notification and Incident Response.
